Some languages have just the right word for that thing you can’t name.
When we set out to craft the ultimate blend of coffees from East Africa, it seemed only natural to take our cues from the open spirit of mixing and mingling that has shaped this eclectic part of the world. You see, centuries of trade with faraway lands like India, Arabia and even Old Europe have left quite an imprint on Swahili customs and culture.
In our tasting room, the result of our medley-making stunned even our most seasoned coffee masters. Here was a cup with bold, arresting flavors softened by a delicate acidity. Luscious notes of citrus embellished with subtle spices and fresh floral aromas.
We had a true original on our hands and we couldn’t wait to put it out there. But what to call it? The taste was so complex, so exceptional, we were simply at a loss for words.
Lucky for us, Swahili happened to have just the name for such a “deliciousness beyond description” – kitamu. Discover its true meaning with a cup of this extraordinary blend.
